HANMER SPRINGS: A GREAT CAMPING WEEKEND WITH MY NEW GIRLFRIENDS

Another beautiful weekend is over. Beautiful weather-wise but especially because my new girlfriends joined me this time: camping has never been more fun.

While I was waiting for my company I went to check the Hanmer Springs waterfall. The track was only 2 kilometres but it was uphill and there were slippery rocks all over the place so it took me over an out to get there. Fortunately I had my new, nearly self-walking hiking boots on so it was not too bad. The waterfall did not have much water but it was very tall and I had to bend my head backward a lot to be able to see its top.

On the way back I had a long lunch in the sun and when I got back to the Forest Camp where we were going to stay overnight, my new friends were already putting their tent up. Right, tents. Not only one, but two since there were four of them: auntie Betty, uncle Thomas and Bela and Tami, two little girls. While the adults were setting up our campsite I started playing with the girls – I showed them my new bike and let them show me how to ride it down a big hill. Then we were chasing each other wrapped in sleeping mats and it was great fun.

It was a pretty hot afternoon so we decided to go for a swim. It turned out we could have gone even if it was freezing because the water in the pools – it was 1, 2, 3, 6, 8… a lot of them – was hot! With the girls we had a lot of fun floating, blowing bubbles and splashing each other and we didn´t want to leave at all. When we finally did it was so late that we only managed to bounce on a couch for a bit, eat our dinner and go out like a light in our warm sleeping bags.

In the morning there was dew so heavy that we all had to wear our gumboots. It did not stop us from riding my bike, looking for seeds in the ground and generally having a rollicking good time. Because the girls missed the waterfall they wanted to do some hiking and I could not let them go on their own of course. With the help of each other we managed to reach the top where in 550 metres above sea level we had a yummy lunch. The day before I gave the girls dry banana, the next day they gave me delicious cucumber and I realized how great sharing is. “Mine” still belongs among my favourite words but now I use it much less than before.

After the hike we went to the playground for a bit more and then it was time to go home. I hugged my new girlfriends and said bye. Mum says we might go camping with them again soon and I already started planning for it. I am sure it will be great fun.
