KAITUNA: TURN OF THE YEAR WITH FREYA

Freya is a sheep. She is young but already big. And she is even softer than my Sheepy even though she is definitely not a soft toy and when she decides she can run quick as a flash.

I got to pet Freya a lot since I spent a few days around the turn of the year at her parents´ little farm. It all started with a horrible, hot and long drive from the West Coast, where I enjoyed my Christmas holiday with dad, my NZ grandma and grandpa and my little friends from Wanaka. I hated sitting in my car seat so long but once I got out in Kaituna, in an instant I knew my suffering was worth it. First I met Tes, Pip and Mouse, three sheep doggies, whose amazing work I had the chance to watch the next morning.
In his truck Steven took us up the hill and once we enjoyed the views we started walking down. I picked up heaps of pine cones and made everybody carry them for me and then we draw pictures in the mud, it was good fun. At the bottom there were beehives and Cathy explained to me that those busy little creatures were making the honey mum spread on my toast in the morning. Good on them!
Sheep eat grass and once they finish what grows in their paddock they have to be shifted to another one. Mum and I were sent to open some gates and then we sat down and watched how Tes, Pip and Mouse ran those noisy wooly balls towards us.

The hot afternoon I spent splashing in my little pool (and petting Freya a bit more) and then in the evening we had a yummy New Year´s Eve barbeque and went to sleep at 9. When I woke up in the morning, suddenly it was not 2018 anymore, crazy!
I went to celebrate by a swim in cool Pelorus River (and some more Freya petting). But time flies and much as I wanted to stay at the beautiful farm forever, (after petting Freya some more) I had to get in the car and survive the long drive again.
Looking forward to seeing you soon again, my fluffy Freya.
Your Annie
