NEW ZEALAND: HOW MUM WANTED TO AVOID CHRISTMAS BUT SANTA FOUND ME ANYWAY

I can tell you that the thing about Christmas is pretty confusing. It all starts with the date when we are actually supposed to celebrate and finishes with who the being bringing presents is. I personally would not care much as long as I got all I wanted but mum seemed to be bothered with it and decided to run away.

So on Monday, the 24th of December we jumped in the car and headed to Banks Peninsula. It was a beautiful morning for a change and the views towards the Akaroa harbor from the Rocky Peak were awesome. I wanted to see them as close as possible, so I climbed up high and almost gave mum a heart attack. Maybe next year Santa could bring me a harness and a rope? On the way back I walked on my own most of the time: there was a lot of mud so sliding down was pretty easy and good fun.
It made me very tired though so by the time we arrived in Okains Bay Campground I was sound asleep. When I woke up my “house” (understand: tent) was already put up and the only thing I had to do was start exploring around. And there was a lot to explore: a beautiful long beach with soft white sand, mountains of driftwood, shells, crabs, rocks… I stopped building sandcastles only to grab an ice cream in the historic store from 1873.

In the morning I built a sand track for my little car and then it was time to go over to Akaroa and check their playground. I was set on local fish and chips as well but (how surprising!) almost everything was shut so I ended up tasting Chinese dumplings instead.
A time for fish came a bit later and I even got to sit on the big chair! When I made enough mess all over the place mum said I needed to go to my bedroom for a bit and let Santa do his job. Then I heard a bell, figured it was the signal and run back to the living room. There under my tiny Christmas tree there it was: a few boxes for mum and a huge sack full of presents only for me. Among them… my baby! Finally! I saw it in mum´s wardrobe before a few times but I played surprised so well that mum could not tell at all. After all it was the first time when I got to take her (I decided to call her Annie, surprise, surprise) out of her box, feed her from her bottle and change her wet nappy.

Annie and I finished the remaining gingerbread, spilled some juice, did some colouring, read my new book on sheepies… and fell to bed dead. Merry Christmas to you all!
