TORONTO: HOW TO SELL A CAR

Good question. If you knew the answer, you should have let mum and me know because we had no idea. It was our old good Dodge that took us from the Rockies to the West Coast, from the West Coast to Alaska, from Alaska all the way to Quebec and finally to the largest Canadian city. We did 19 000 km in it (our Australian friends who were driving it for us to Alaska another 4 000), read books in it (me), worked in it (mum) and slept in it (both of us) 4 out of our 5 month in Canada… and ended up leaving it with our Airbnb host, Logan. Who claimed he really needed a car like that but it´s pretty obvious he just felt sorry for us.

Anyway, how did I spend my last two weeks in Canada? On the way from Gatineu (and my doggie Ted) we stopped in Kingston for two days. For a few odd years Kingston was a Canadian capital and now it is a really nice small city with beautiful downtown, interesting penitentiary museum and delicious ice cream.

Hamilton lies to the west of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes of the North America. There lived Ella, a cat whose mum left for holiday for a few days. Easy enough, I can take care of a kitty. Especially when it is just a stone´s throw away from the legendary Niagara Falls. The boat ride under the roaring waterfall was pretty wet and even though I got an awesome raincoat I got soaked from head to toe.

Logan and Geetha are from Sri Lanka and we were their first Airbnb guests in Toronto. (And after the experience with us maybe the last ones as well.) They had a huge house with mountains of toys ready for their grandchildren to come visit. Well, they didn´t have to this time, I put them to good use.

Apart from intensive playing I went to check the Bata shoe museum (I love shoes and there were sooooo many of them!) and a history of Toronto to the Black Creek Pioneer Village with awesome old houses and animals to pat.

Toronto is huge and with it almost 3 million people it is the largest Canadian city. It is busy and traffic is horrendous but the downtown is very nice. We started exploring it in the old Distillery District with its beautiful brick building, art galleries and cafes. We walked around the waterfront and before we went to check the 553-meter-high CN Tower (from below), we chilled in the shade of it on a small sandy beach and watched the planes taking off from the Toronto Islands. I didn´t like that swimming in the fountain by a huge Toronto sign was forbidden but then I got an ice cream and we could set off for our long train/bus/street car ride back home.

That was Toronto. Busy, hectic, full of organizing… and also hot! Calgary, where we started exactly 5 months ago, got its first snow today, in Ontario we are sweating like a pig and summer is not giving up. There is still a few places I need to explore, so see you again sometime, Canada.
