ROB ROY GLACIER: LUNCH WITH A VIEW

Rob Roy Glacier flows down the peak of the same name in Mount Aspiring National Park. There is a view point at the end of a 5km-long track and there I went with mum today. First we had to get to the car park with a funny name Raspberry Creek and it was a long drive. The last 30 km are gravel and the road was very busy with big campervans. They were throwing dust on us and I couldn't see anything. Boring. Everything got much better once we started walking. The track was easy and I walked most of it myself (mum says I walked SOME of it but I think it was at least 2/3). We beat most of the slow people who started before us and had the place to ourselves for... at least five minutes. And it was a nice place. There was a lot of ice on the mountain and streams falling from it everywhere. Mum said they were called waterfalls. Like falling water. It makes sense I think.

I even saw an avalanche. Actually I heard it first, it was very loud. Then I saw it and it was a lot of snow rolling down the mountain face. Shame we were not closer, I could have made a snowman. And shame daddy was not there, we could have gone higher and touched the ice, I bet it was freezing!

Instead I had lunch, climbed some rocks and we headed back. I walked a lot again (mum says I ran and that´s why both my hands are all scratched now) and again I beat most of the people.

No wonder I ate a big bowl of spaghetti Bolognese for dinner and went to sleep at 6.30. It was a big day.

Your Annie
