THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN I: KAWAGOE IS NOT TOKYO

I don´t know why mum thought that auntie lived in Tokyo when it is no true. However it is not far from Tokyo, Kawagoe is a completely different city.
Mum decided that we take two days “off” there to recover from the total change of everything (the hemisphere, the time of the year as well as the environment) before we head to Hokkaido.

To explain it a bit: mum and auntie already explored the south part of Honshu when mum visited in 2014, so this time she wants to see something different. I don´t care much so I guess we will go. I am a little bit sad thought that for a few upcoming days we won´t be staying in auntie´s little apartment, where I quite like it. Auntie moved to the living room for us to have the bedroom for ourselves. I myself don´t sleep on the bed, but on the futon on the floor – after my glorious fall from possibly the highest bed on this planet in the hotel in Christchurch mum didn´t want to take the risk anymore.
In the tiny living room with the kitchen there is a great glass coffee table, where I can practice standing up, and if one wants to take a bath he enters the shower strait from there. You can climb to the terrace with artificial grass from the kitchen window which is cool because right now there is maybe 30 degrees outside.
The first two days mum and I spent exploring Kawagoe. We had plenty of time for that because I decided not to accept the mere three-hour time difference (why would I when it is already bright at 4.30 am?) and thus the days start for us at half past four. The old quarter is called Koedo Kawagoe and there are typical old wooden houses. In most of them there is a shop, a cafe or a restaurant on the ground floor. In one of them mum bought us green matcha ice-cream, we sat down in front of a shrine and ate it all.
Today it was raining heaps the whole day so we went shopping and bought a lot of food for me. I have no idea what the ingredients are, because no one really speaks English here. The first impression is not the best, but if you overcome the initial aversion it is pretty yummy.
Tomorrow morning we are flying to Hokkaido and I have to say that auntie is working her fingers to the bone and so far I haven´t really had a chance to enjoy her. But she is obviously coming to meet us after Hokkaido and we are going somewhere all together. That somewhere is called Kyoto and mum is completely bowled over it.
