SEALY TARNS: HOW I MET MY CZECH PEOPLE

One day the expedition of mum´s friend´s travel agency arrived in Mount Cook Village and we joined them on the way up to Sealy Tarns. Sealy Tarns are two small lakes halfway up the Sealy Range with beautiful views of Mount Sefton covered with a glacier. The vertical drop is about 500 metres and there is a lot, A LOT of steps up and (the exactly same amount and equally steep) down.

It was a nice sunny day and mum made me really sweaty (gross!), but we got to speak some Czech. Very refreshing after two months in New Zealand, when mum was the only one addressing me in this strange language, so I almost started to think she might have made it up. She was talking and talking and didn´t close her mouth until we got to the tarns. I was really ashamed.
From the lakes our new friends continued a little bit further towards Mueller hut, where mum was forbidden to take me (dad thinks that it is dangerous, but I find it cool and I want to go there one day for sure), while we walked down. Then with shaking legs mum decided it was the last time when she was carrying me in the front pack – since then, whenever she doesn´t need a backpack, I have always been sitting on her back. And it is awesome – much nicer views and, if I stretch my arms enough, I can pull her hair or even grab branches!
