VENICE: A FEW DAYS IN NARROW STREETS

Mum doesn´t like presents which eventually only catch dust somewhere on a shelf. That´s why she decided to give dad and me a trip to Venice for Christmas. Venice is in Italy.
A week before Christmas Day we set off. Mum also doesn´t like to pay extra money for things she finds unnecessary so we ended up having a seat in the front part of the plane while dad was sitting in the back. It was my first flight (if I don´t count those few I undertook in mum´s belly, the last one to Hamburg in July) and I didn´t particularly love it. First – daddy was far away. And second – I had to sit on mum´s lap and I obviously wanted to have my own seat! Emphatically enough I let everybody know how unsatisfied I was. On the way back there was still no spare seat but at least dad was sitting right next to me.
Venice I quite liked. Gondolas, narrow streets, boats like the public transport... and a few days before Christmas also people everywhere. We climbed up (a lift did, actually) St Mark´s bell tower for a bird´s eye view of the city and went to see Peggy Guggenheim Collection of modern art. I don´t know what people see in all those Picasso´s, Dalí´s and Kandinsky´s. I didn´t like them but the couch was comfortable enough so I went to sleep while mum and dad were taking turns exploring the museum.
On the other hand what I can appreciate is good Italian coffee, wine and food and I enjoyed our numerous visits of cafes and restaurants where we stopped couple of times a day for mum to give me my food.
On our last day in Venice dad went shopping (I had no idea that he actually liked it!) and mum and I took the vaporetto to Burano, the island about 45-minute ride from St Mark´s Square. It´s famous for its beautiful colourful houses and the leaning bell tower of the local cathedral. It is 53 metres high and it is inclined of 1.83 metres respect to its axis. Great place to take heaps of cool pictures with the new camera dad gave to mum, you would expect. But I just hate stopping all the time, is it clear? When we came back dad was already waiting for us in our room – sick of shopping, aye :-)?

Anyway, in Venice mum´s organizational skills turned out to have diminished significantly since the last time she was travelling. After walking through all Venice on a beautiful sunny day there was no bus from Torcello island at 10 and to Treviso airport we arrived 15 minutes before our plane back to Prague was due to take off. After jumping the horrific queue at the security (which dad absolutely hated and claimed we should have waited and missed the plane as a kind of a well-deserved punishment) we managed to board – just on time.
