MEG HUT: THERE WAS NO WOOD!

Meg Hut is a very old hut in Pisa Conservation Area maybe 30 kilometres from Wanaka. Meg Hut is a hut where mum and dad met ages ago. And Meg Hut is also a place where mum took me camping this weekend. Yay!

When we went to stay overnight last time I was still far from taking my first step. But this time mum planned for me a lot of walking. In the beginning I was quite keen: it was supposed to be only 7 km, child could do it! But when I saw the hill in front of us, one more behind it and all the hills around, I changed my mind and went to sleep. So when nearly two hours ago I woke up in front of Meg Hut mum had to remind me that those guys on quads had actually passed us on our way up. Anyway, who cares: they were nice and even gave us some cold beers (for me) and lemonade (for mum, or the other way round :-/?).

I fell in love with the hut straight away and started to explore it inside and outside and I had a good time until mum started to bother with firewood. She claimed there was none while I could see all those dead trees. She made me play among them (that was actually quite cool) while she was doing something with a strange tool I had never seen before and was not allowed to play with (boooring!), sweating and swearing. When she finally finished and I got bored with the trees, we got a company! Three guys from Cromwell came to spend a night at the hut with us. They were talking funny and had a lot of things I could steal and play with, they even gave me a genuine German pretzel! Yum!

Mum forced them to make some more wood which was pretty funny because the night was so warm that eventually we didn´t even light the fire. Well, it will make someone else´s day and daddy who believes in karma would say that it will come back to us sometime later.

I had a great night in my pea sleeping bag. I woke up only once and I am pretty sure it was due to Ryan´s horrific snoring. It was completely light at 6.30 and I made sure everybody in the hut knew. We had a tasty breakfast, played around a bit, said goodbye to our mates, tidied the hut and set off.

I tried for the same I-will-only-have-a-short-nap strategy again but this time mum only carried me two kilometers uphill and a little bit down, then took me out, passed me my ladybird backpack stuffed with my toys and snacks (heavy!) and I had to walk on my own.

And I was doing really well on the flat bits, but (un)fortunately there were not many of those and I am only learning how to break on steep hills so after I hit my forehead on a sharp rock she decided to carry me again.

Anyway, it was a cool trip, hopefully the first out of many coming soon.

P.S.: I hadn´t even managed to take my hiking boots off and mum already started to organize another Sunday Arts&Crafts lesson. This time a huge pumpkin was in the centre of it. It is completely hollow now and full of holes and mum says I will see what it is for in a few days.
